About the organization

Wild Roof Journal is an online literary and arts journal founded in 2019 with the conviction that creative expression thrives in spaces that are both accessible and thoughtfully curated. From its inception, the journal has sought to showcase work that engages with the natural world, personal and collective memory, and the quiet complexities of contemporary life. Its digital format allows for a global reach while maintaining the intimacy of a small, dedicated editorial team. The journal publishes quarterly issues featuring poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and visual art, with a particular openness to emerging and underrepresented voices. The founding ethos is one of generous attention: each piece is selected not for its adherence to trend but for its capacity to surprise, unsettle, or illuminate. Wild Roof Journal operates as a labor of love, prioritizing the integrity of the work over commercial imperatives, and fostering a community of readers and artists who value depth over noise.

Wild Roof Journal: Poetry Submissions

Taking part

Artists and writers should approach Wild Roof Journal with a clear sense of its aesthetic: work that is evocative, often nature-inflected, and unafraid of vulnerability. Before submitting, read at least one full issue to understand the range and tone of accepted pieces. For visual art, high-resolution images (300 dpi) are expected, and artists should include a brief artist statement that contextualizes the work without over-explaining. The journal accepts simultaneous submissions but requests immediate notification if work is accepted elsewhere. Response times typically range from 4 to 8 weeks. There are no submission fees for visual art, though donations are appreciated. The editors value concise, professional cover letters that demonstrate familiarity with the journal. Above all, submit work that feels necessary to you—the journal favors authenticity over polish.
