Aika Akhmetova

Aika Akhmetova is an interdisciplinary artist born in Almaty, Kazakhstan in 1995, who works between New York City and Almaty. Their practice spans installation, video, and performance, often drawing on queerness, kink, and Central Asian traditions. They were named an Artist-in-Residence at the Fire Island Artist Residency for 2025. Akhmetova holds a BFA in Painting from Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA in Visual Arts from Columbia University. Their solo exhibitions include shows at Ortega y Gasset Projects and A.I.R. Gallery, and a 2026 show at Below Grand in New York. The pages reviewed do not mention The Artist in the Marketplace Program, so no 2022 residency with that program is confirmed.
