Alvin Armstrong

Alvin Armstrong is a self-taught painter based in Brooklyn who makes figurative work about Black American life, drawing on archival material, community, and personal experience. He trained in Eastern medicine and worked as a licensed acupuncturist before painting full time. He was a Visual Arts Resident at Pioneer Works in 2022, and his solo shows include To Give and Take (Anna Zorina Gallery, 2021) and Pretty Soon We'll Be Underwater (Los Angeles, 2023).
