Barbara Sullivan

Barbara Sullivan is a Maine-based fresco painter who has worked in the medium since 1990. She makes shaped, freestanding frescoes and gallery installations that give a contemporary, ironic spin on the traditional form. She taught at the University of Maine at Farmington for many years and has led fresco workshops at institutions including Bowdoin, Colby, and Haystack. Sullivan is an alumna of the Surf Point Foundation residency program in York, Maine, and was included in its 2023 alumni exhibition at the George Marshall Store Gallery. She was also among the regional artists whose studios were visited during the NADA x Surf Point pilot program. Her fresco work has earned Esther and Adolph Gottlieb Foundation and Pollock/Krasner grants.
