Katherine Riegel

Katherine (Katie) Riegel is a poet, writer, teacher, and editor who grew up on a horse farm in central Illinois. She earned an MFA in poetry from the Iowa Writers Workshop and taught writing at colleges and universities for nearly 25 years. She now lives in the Scottish Borders. Her newest book, a poetry collection titled What Life Is Like Here on Earth, is published by Sheila-Na-Gig Editions in 2026. Her earlier lyric memoir about her sister and grief, Our Bodies Are Mostly Water, came out from Cornerstone Press in 2025. She co-founded and manages the literary magazine Sweet and teaches online poetry and creative nonfiction classes.
