Michael Richards

Michael Richards (1963–2001) was a Brooklyn-born, Kingston-raised sculptor and draftsman whose work addressed racial inequity, flight, and the Tuskegee Airmen. He was an artist in residence at the Studio Museum in Harlem in 1995–1996. He died in the September 11 attacks while working in his World Trade Center studio, at age 38. His first museum retrospective, 'Are You Down?', was organized by MOCA North Miami and later shown at The Bronx Museum. Oolite Arts in Miami, where he had a residency, named a lifetime achievement award after him.
