Rochelle Jamila

Rochelle Jamila is a Brooklyn-based performing artist, dancer, and folk herbalist who works across dance, song, and earth-based ritual. Her choreography focuses on liberation, Black cultures of the US South, and the lives of women and bleeding people. She also works as a fertility doula. She was a 2024 resident at A Studio in the Woods, where she continued work on the blues and musical traditions of the Mississippi Delta. The residency was part of the 2024-2025 Self as Universe program. She was listed again among that program's artists in a 2025 NEA grant announcement. Jamila is a 2025 Van Lier Emerging Artists of Color Fellow at Movement Research. Her work has been presented in Tennessee, New York, and the Netherlands.
