Ruyan Meng

Ruyan Meng is a novelist who fled China after the 1989 Tiananmen Square movement. Her novel The Morgue Keeper, published by 7.13 Books in October 2025, is set during the Cultural Revolution in 1966. The book was longlisted for the Carol Shields Prize 2026. Meng has spoken in interviews with Vol. 1 Brooklyn and Zona Motel about the novel's origins and her experience of trauma, and about writing as a way of processing it.
