Shanzhai Lyric

Shanzhai Lyric is a New York-based poetic research unit, est. 2015, that studies counterfeit English on mass-produced T-shirts made in China. Their work examines mimicry, hybridity and global supply chains. They were the Winter 2026 visual arts resident at Pioneer Works. Their archive, Incomplete Poem, contains more than 500 shirts and circulates through poetry-lectures, publications and installations. In 2020 they founded the fictional Canal Street Research Association. Their debut book, Endless Garment, was published by Pioneer Works Press in 2026. The Brooklyn Rail identifies the collaborative duo as Ming Lin and Alex Tatarsky.
