Sophia van Wyk

Sophia van Wyk is a South African sculptor and artist based in Cape Town. Her work draws on myth, cosmology and ideas of fate, often in fibreglass and metal. She has been linked to Nirox Foundation through a residency, group exhibitions and the NOT A SINGLE STORY show in 2018. Her 2022 Future Mythologies series at Everard Read Gallery draws on cosmologies from many cultures, including Norse, Egyptian and Buddhist traditions. Her earlier sculpture Foot in the Door was vandalised in 2020 and later reworked as The Realm of Wisdom.
