STEPHEN-BERNARD DEREK CALLENDER
Stephen-Bernard Derek Callender is a sculptor whose work centers on ceramics and the cultural history of clay. He describes an interest in what he calls object metadata, the idea that a material's origin and transformation are embedded in the finished object. As a past resident of Residency 108 in Germantown, New York, he made ceramics from locally harvested clay, including replicas of prehistoric tools fired in a kiln he built.
