Wowo Souakoli

Wowo Souakoli is a Guinean guitarist described by A Studio in the Woods as a master of the Guinean guitar. His music draws on balafon traditions, the Malinke xylophone tradition tied to the Mali empire. He uses a plectrum (pick) and guitar technique to bring Guinean traditional music into a modern setting. In 2023 he took part in a collaborative residency with the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park, working with local jazz, blues, and zydeco musicians alongside Sidiki Conde.
