About the press

Apollo Publishers is an independent publishing house based in New York City, founded in 2016 with a commitment to publishing literary fiction, narrative nonfiction, and poetry that prioritizes craft and intellectual rigor over market trends. The press emerged from a collective of editors and writers seeking an alternative to conglomerate publishing, emphasizing close editorial relationships and a curated list of eight to twelve titles per year. Its core mission is to champion voices that are formally adventurous yet emotionally resonant, often bridging the gap between literary and commercial fiction without sacrificing either.

Publishing focus

Apollo Publishers publishes narrative and illustrated nonfiction books on topics they deem timely and topical. Books must have broad, trade appeal.

Unsolicited submissionsYes

Apollo Publishers accepts unsolicited submissions exclusively through its website during biannual reading periods (typically January and July). Submit a query letter, a synopsis, and the first 50 pages of your manuscript as a single PDF. They prioritize literary fiction, narrative nonfiction, and poetry collections; genre fiction (romance, thriller, sci-fi) is generally not a fit unless it demonstrates strong literary merit. Response times average 8–12 weeks. Simultaneous submissions are permitted, but notify them immediately upon acceptance elsewhere. Do not submit full manuscripts unless requested. Familiarize yourself with their catalog before querying to ensure alignment with their aesthetic.

Please submit a book proposal, sample chapter, and author bio. If your book may be a good fit for our list, we will get back to you. Due to the volume of submissions, we may not be able to respond to each submission.
