About the press

Founded in 1980 at the University of Houston, Arte Público Press is the oldest and largest publisher of contemporary Hispanic literature in the United States. Its founding mission was to recover and preserve the literary heritage of U.S. Hispanic writers, who were largely absent from mainstream publishing. Over four decades, it has built an extensive catalog of novels, poetry, short stories, and drama, while also publishing children's books and bilingual materials through its Piñata Books imprint. The press remains dedicated to amplifying voices that reflect the diversity of Latino experiences across the country.
