About the press

Arteidolia Press is an independent publisher and curatorial project founded in 2016 by artist and writer Adam Farcus. Emerging from a background in socially engaged art and experimental pedagogy, the press takes its name from the psychological phenomenon of pareidolia—the tendency to perceive meaningful patterns where none exist—reframing it as a critical lens for art and literature. The press operates as a platform for interdisciplinary work that questions how meaning is constructed, circulated, and contested. Its core mission is to publish and exhibit projects that are conceptually rigorous, formally inventive, and often collaborative, with a particular emphasis on artists' books, critical writing, and ephemeral or site-responsive practices. Arteidolia functions as both a small press and a roving curatorial entity, producing publications, exhibitions, and public programs that resist easy categorization.

Publishing focus

Arteidolia Press is looking for authors who push the gamut of possibilities, for writing that is diverse and inventive, adventuresome and experimental.

Arteidolia Press accepts submissions on a rolling basis, though reading periods may be announced via its website and newsletter. Artists and writers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the press's catalog before submitting, as the list reflects a clear preference for conceptually driven, interdisciplinary work that blurs the boundaries between art, writing, and criticism. Proposals should include a concise project description, a statement of intent, and representative samples (no more than 10 pages or 5 images). Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please notify the press promptly if your work is placed elsewhere. Given the press's small scale, response times can be lengthy; patience is appreciated. Unsolicited full manuscripts are discouraged unless preceded by a query. For artists' books and exhibition proposals, include a detailed production plan and budget estimate. The press values collaboration and often works closely with authors and artists throughout the editorial process, so a willingness to engage in dialogue and revision is essential.
