About the press

Bellevue Literary Press is an independent publisher founded in 2007 as a division of the Department of Medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center. It emerged from the pioneering medical humanities movement, which sought to bridge the divide between the sciences and the arts. The press is dedicated to publishing literary fiction and nonfiction that explore the intersections of medicine, science, and human experience. Its mission is to foster a deeper understanding of health, illness, and the human condition through compelling narratives that are both scientifically informed and artistically resonant.

Publishing focus

Bellevue Literary Press is devoted to publishing literary fiction and nonfiction at the intersection of the arts and sciences because they believe that science and the humanities are natural companions for understanding the human experience. They feature exceptional literature that explores the nature of consciousness, embodiment, and the underpinnings of the social contract. With each book they publish, their goal is to foster a rich, interdisciplinary dialogue that will forge new tools for thinking and engaging with the world.
