About the press

Between the Lines Publishing is an independent literary press founded in 2010 with a commitment to publishing work that challenges conventional narratives and amplifies underrepresented voices. The press has built a reputation for its carefully curated list of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry that often blurs genre boundaries and engages with social and political themes. Its ethos is rooted in a collaborative editorial process, where authors are seen as partners in shaping their work for publication. Over the years, Between the Lines has maintained a small, focused catalog, prioritizing quality over quantity and fostering a community of readers and writers who value literary risk-taking.

Publishing focus

BLP is currently accepting engaging stories in search of a great home. Main themes explore the liminal world where anything can happen. Liminal is anything “in-between” or “other.” The editors love authors who are willing to take a chance and explore the concepts of “other” through a variety of genres. Magic isn’t just for fantasy readers anymore.

Between the Lines Publishing accepts submissions through periodic open calls, typically announced on their website and social media. They seek full-length manuscripts in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry that demonstrate strong voice and social relevance. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify them immediately if your work is placed elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter with your submission, outlining your background and how your work aligns with the press's mission. Response times can be lengthy (3-6 months), so patience is advised. They do not accept unsolicited submissions outside of open calls, so monitor their website for announcements.

If you think your manuscript pushes the boundaries and will leave us breathless, we want to hear from you. Although all manuscripts go through an editing process, your book should be at its best before you submit. The best way to be noticed is to send a professional query letter and a strong summary. All submissions must be made through Stack. Link available on our submissions page.
