About the press

Fallen Tree Press is an independent publisher and literary arts organization dedicated to cultivating emerging and underrepresented voices in contemporary poetry, fiction, and hybrid texts. Founded on the belief that literature thrives at the margins, the press operates with a small, editor-led model that prioritizes sustained authorial development over market-driven trends. Its catalogue reflects a commitment to risk-taking and formal experimentation, often bridging the gap between traditional literary craft and interdisciplinary practice.

Publishing focus

Fallen Tree Press is a small press specializing in publishing poetry chapbooks. FTP is focused on being part of the larger writing community. It’s their intent to promote a diverse group of writers, especially those identifying as women, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and members of underserved groups. Whenever possible, a portion of the proceeds from book sales will be donated to charity. The charities will be selected in conjunction with the authors.

Before submitting, read at least two recent titles from the catalogue to understand the press's aesthetic range. Follow the stated reading periods precisely; unsolicited submissions outside those windows are typically discarded. Include a brief, specific cover letter that contextualizes your manuscript within contemporary literary conversations—avoid generic praise or self-deprecation. Simultaneous submissions are usually accepted, but notify immediately upon acceptance elsewhere. Expect a response time of three to six months; a polite query after that period is appropriate.

Please pay attention to the guidelines on our submission page. We alternate between having submissions open to all and having submissions limited to a particular underserved group.
