Publishing focus

Open Books Press is dedicated to publishing quality books. When they’re open for submissions, they accept adult nonfiction, and fiction for all ages (including some YA and children's). All authors with exceptional work will be given serious consideration.

Open Books Press accepts submissions through periodic reading windows announced on its website and social media. Before submitting, carefully review the catalogue to understand the press's aesthetic range; unsolicited manuscripts that ignore these parameters are rarely successful. Include a concise cover letter that situates your work within contemporary conversations, and ensure your manuscript is polished and free of typographical errors. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify the press immediately if your work is placed elsewhere. Response times vary, so patience is advised.

Please follow our submission guidelines as closely as possible to ensure your submission is complete. Verify that we’re currently accepting submissions by visiting our Query page, as we are only open to submissions for a limited amount of time once or twice per year. Email subscribers and social media followers will be notified when we have an open submissions period. Emailed submissions will not be reviewed.
