Writers should review Red Hen Press’s specific submission guidelines on their website, noting that they accept manuscripts through contests and occasional open reading periods. The Benjamin Saltman Poetry Award requires a full-length poetry manuscript and charges a reading fee; simultaneous submissions are generally discouraged. Given the press’s focus on literary quality and diverse perspectives, applicants should ensure their work aligns with Red Hen’s catalog and demonstrates polished, distinctive craft. Patience is advised, as response times can be lengthy due to high submission volume.
