About the press

Red Light Lit Press is an independent publisher and literary arts organization based in San Francisco, founded in 2013 by Jennifer Lewis. It emerged from the Red Light Lit reading series, which sought to create a space where literature and music intersect, emphasizing work that explores desire, relationships, and the complexities of human intimacy. The press is dedicated to publishing poetry, fiction, and hybrid works that are emotionally resonant and formally adventurous, often with a focus on voices from marginalized communities. Its mission is to champion writing that is both vulnerable and intellectually rigorous, fostering a community of writers and artists who value candor and craft.

Writers should familiarize themselves with the press's aesthetic by reading previous publications, such as their anthologies or chapbooks. Submissions are typically open for themed anthologies or full-length manuscripts during specific reading periods announced on their website and social media. They seek work that is emotionally honest, vividly crafted, and unafraid of exploring the erotic or the tender. Simultaneous submissions are generally accepted, but notify immediately if accepted elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter with your submission, and adhere strictly to genre and length guidelines. Response times vary, so patience is advised.
