Calls & opportunities
8 listedManuscript submissions
Running Wild accepts novella submissions exclusively through its annual anthology calls. Writers should monitor the website for open reading periods, typically announced in advance. Manuscripts should adhere strictly to the stated word count—generally between 15,000 and 40,000 words—and align with the anthology’s theme if one is specified. Simultaneous submissions are often permitted, but notify promptly upon acceptance elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter with publication history, and ensure the manuscript is formatted in standard industry style. Response times vary; patience is advised. Above all, demonstrate a command of the novella form: tight pacing, developed characters, and a narrative arc that justifies its length.
We publish 15 to 20 titles per year, per house. If we aren’t interested, then you’ll receive a rejection letter. If we are interested, then you may not hear from us until we are ready to make an offer. In some cases that could be a year or longer. Please use standard submission guidelines (double spaced, Times New Roman, 12 point font).
