About the press

Sea Crow Press is an independent literary press founded on the principle that poetry and short prose can thrive outside commercial constraints. Established in the early 2010s, it has built a reputation for publishing work that is formally adventurous yet emotionally accessible, often focusing on voices from coastal and peripheral communities. The press operates as a curatorial project as much as a publisher, with an ethos rooted in slow, deliberate editorial attention rather than market-driven output. Its catalogue includes full-length collections, chapbooks, and an annual anthology series, all characterized by a spare, tactile design aesthetic that reflects the press's commitment to the book as an object of care.

Publishing focus

Sea Crow Press is an independent publisher of literary fiction, nonfiction, and poetry rooted in place, landscape, and the natural world. We publish a select list of titles each year and seek immersive, voice-driven work with strong literary craft and emotional depth. Our focus includes eco-literature, climate fiction, memoir, and poetry shaped by environment and regional identity. Titles are distributed in the U.S. and Canada by Simon & Schuster.

Sea Crow Press accepts submissions through periodic open reading windows, announced via its website and newsletter. Do not query outside these windows. Submit a concise cover letter, a 10–15 page sample of your manuscript, and a brief bio. The press values work that demonstrates a clear sense of line, image, and emotional restraint; avoid overly conceptual or heavily theoretical proposals. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify immediately upon acceptance elsewhere. Response times typically range from three to six months. There are no reading fees for standard submissions, though a fee-based fast-track option is available for expedited review.

We believe the small press plays an essential part in contemporary arts by amplifying voices that might otherwise go unheard. Our books celebrate our connection to nature and each other while charting a positive direction for the future. We are small but mighty and we work closely with our authors. We are international with a focus on our New England roots. We welcome emerging writers and experienced authors. If you write memoir, poetry, or prose to tell stories and inspire change, we are looking for your best work. We especially love poetry with a New England / Cape Cod theme.
