About the press

Seven Kitchens Press is an independent poetry press founded in 2008 by Ron Mohring. Operating with a cooperative, community-oriented ethos, the press publishes chapbooks and full-length collections, with a particular emphasis on LGBTQ+ voices, writers of color, and emerging poets. Its curated series—such as the Keystone Chapbook Series, Rane Arroyo Chapbook Series, and Robin Becker Series—reflect a commitment to inclusivity and literary excellence. The press is known for its hands-on editorial approach, often working closely with authors to bring their manuscripts to print.

Publishing focus

The goal of Seven Kitchens Press has always been to publish the very best poetry and prose they can find in carefully-edited, hand-trimmed, and hand-tied chapbooks; to work in close collaboration with authors through the production process; and to present a wide aesthetic range from both established and emerging writers.

Seven Kitchens Press accepts submissions through periodic open reading periods, which are announced on its website and social media. Each series has specific guidelines, so carefully review the submission call for the series you are targeting. The press values work that demonstrates a distinctive voice and a coherent thematic arc. Simultaneous submissions are typically accepted, but notify immediately if your manuscript is accepted elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter with your contact information and any relevant publication credits. Due to the high volume of submissions, response times may vary; patience is appreciated. There are no reading fees for most series, but consider purchasing a book to support the press.

Visit our website to read sample work from our authors and to thoroughly read our series guidelines. We’re interested in your work, not your reputation, and have a special fondness for odd ducks. Reading periods are typically four weeks long for each of our open series. Especially interested in new and emerging voices from the widest possible range of experience.
