About the press

Seven Stories Press is an independent book publisher founded in 1995 by Dan Simon, with a commitment to publishing works of political and social significance that are often overlooked by mainstream houses. The press takes its name from the idea that there are many sides to every story, and its list reflects a dedication to literary fiction, progressive nonfiction, and international voices. Over the decades, Seven Stories has built a reputation for championing bold, dissident, and humanistic writing, including the controversial and the marginalized. Its core mission is to publish books that matter, fostering a culture of intellectual rigor and ethical engagement.
