About the press

South Broadway Press is an independent publisher and literary arts organization rooted in Denver's historic South Broadway corridor. Founded in 2015 by a collective of writers and book artists, it emerged from a desire to create a platform for experimental and marginalized voices within the contemporary literary landscape. The press operates with a dual focus: publishing limited-edition chapbooks and full-length collections that prioritize formal innovation and cross-genre work, and fostering a community through readings, workshops, and residencies. Its mission is to champion writing that challenges conventional narratives and to support authors at critical stages of their careers, often when other avenues are closed.

South Broadway Press opens submissions periodically, typically announced via their newsletter and social media. They seek manuscripts that demonstrate a strong, distinctive voice and a willingness to push against genre boundaries. Before submitting, read several titles from their catalog to understand their aesthetic. They value work that is both intellectually rigorous and emotionally resonant. Include a brief cover letter that contextualizes your work within their mission. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify them immediately if your manuscript is accepted elsewhere. Response times can be lengthy due to the small team, so patience is appreciated.

South Broadway Press seeks weird, gorgeous and revolutionary poetry. We are interested in work that points us towards symbiosis with not just other humans, but with all beings in this moment, all beings past, and those future beings that will be impacted by the choices we collectively, and individually, make today. South Broadway Press is committed to soliciting work from voices often excluded from traditional publishing, including writers of color, gender nonconforming and LGBTQ writers, and those living with disabilities. We are not a horror journal. Our journal name, South Broadway Ghost Society, has at times given folks this impression.
