About the press

Transformation Media Books is an independent publishing house founded in 1997 by a collective of writers and media artists seeking to bridge experimental literature and digital culture. From its early chapbooks to its current catalog of hybrid novels, essay collections, and artist books, the press has maintained a commitment to work that challenges conventional narrative forms while remaining accessible to a general readership. Its mission is to publish voices that explore the intersections of technology, identity, and spirituality, often with a focus on underrepresented perspectives. The press operates as a non-profit, relying on a mix of grants, subscriptions, and direct sales. It is known for its collaborative editorial process, where authors work closely with designers and editors from manuscript to final object. While not affiliated with a university, it maintains partnerships with small art spaces and literary festivals to host readings and workshops.

Publishing focus

Transformation Media Books is dedicated to publishing innovative works that nourish the body, mind and spirit, written by authors whose ideas and messages make a difference in the world. TMB is a boutique imprint of Ginny Weissman, a former body/mind/spirit literary agent based in California, and collaborative book publisher Pen & Publish. Weissman’s career spans journalism, television, and publishing.

Before submitting, read at least two titles from the catalog to understand the press's aesthetic range. They accept proposals for full-length manuscripts (novels, hybrid texts, essay collections) and artist book projects, but not individual short stories or poems. Submit via their online portal during open reading periods, which are announced on their website and newsletter. Include a cover letter that articulates how your work engages with the press's mission, a synopsis, and a sample chapter or 10-15 images. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify them immediately if accepted elsewhere. Response times can be slow (3-6 months); do not query before that window. They do not accept unsolicited submissions by mail.

Please follow our submission guidelines as closely as is applicable for your manuscript. This will ensure a complete submission that can be reviewed in a timely manner. Verify that we’re currently accepting queries by visiting our Submissions page, as we are only open to submissions for a limited amount of time once or twice per year. Email subscribers and social media followers will be notified when we have an open submissions period. Emailed submissions will not be reviewed.
