Yas Press, an imprint of the University of New Hampshire Poetry program, was established to publish emerging poets whose work demonstrates formal acuity and emotional risk. Rooted in the university's long-standing commitment to literary craft, the press operates as a teaching laboratory where graduate students collaborate with faculty to produce books of lasting merit. Its annual Granite State Poetry Prize anchors this mission, offering a first or second book publication to a poet whose manuscript exhibits both technical control and imaginative reach. The press favors work that is attentive to the sonic and syntactic possibilities of language, without sacrificing accessibility or emotional weight.

Manuscript submissions
Reading periodOpen now
Submit only during the Granite State Poetry Prize reading period, typically in late summer or early fall. Manuscripts should be 48–80 pages, previously unpublished as a collection, and demonstrate a coherent vision. Avoid sending individual poems outside the contest; the press does not consider unsolicited submissions. Include a brief cover letter with publication history, but do not overstate credentials—the editors read blind. Expect a reading period of several months and a modest prize fee. If your work leans toward experimental or hybrid forms, ensure it still exhibits the line-level care the press prizes.
