About the residency
AiRViNe is a decentralized, artist-run residency network that facilitates international exchange through open calls and partner-hosted programmes. Founded to address the uneven access to residency opportunities for artists from under-represented regions, AiRViNe operates as a platform rather than a fixed-site institution, coordinating placements with host organizations across Europe and Asia. Its core mission is to foster reciprocal, process-driven encounters that prioritize context-specific dialogue over production pressure, with a particular focus on Southeast Asian practitioners through initiatives such as the Asterisk in Residence Kyoto exchange.

Applicants should approach AiRViNe with a clear articulation of their research interests and how a specific exchange context would advance their practice. Proposals that demonstrate sensitivity to local contexts, a willingness to engage in reciprocal dialogue, and a focus on process rather than final product are most aligned with the network's ethos. Since opportunities are often region-specific, artists should carefully review eligibility criteria and tailor their applications to the particular host and programme. It is advisable to contact AiRViNe directly for clarification on partner expectations and logistical support.
