About the residency
Akimbo Art is a Canadian non-profit organization dedicated to connecting artists and audiences through its online platform, which serves as a comprehensive hub for artist opportunities, exhibitions, and cultural events. Founded in the early 2000s, Akimbo has grown into a vital resource for the visual and media arts communities, with a particular focus on fostering dialogue and access. Its core mission is to support artists at all career stages by disseminating information about residencies, grants, calls for submission, and other professional opportunities, thereby nurturing a more connected and informed artistic ecosystem.

Artists should regularly consult Akimbo's listings for up-to-date calls, paying close attention to eligibility criteria and deadlines. When applying to opportunities found through Akimbo, tailor your submission to the specific requirements of each organization, and consider that Akimbo itself does not directly administer residencies or grants but rather facilitates connections. For those new to the platform, creating a profile and subscribing to newsletters can help streamline the search for relevant opportunities.
