About the residency

The Delaware Division of the Arts, established in 1969, is a state agency dedicated to supporting and promoting the arts in Delaware. Its founding ethos is rooted in the belief that the arts are essential to the cultural, educational, and economic vitality of the state. The Division administers grants to individual artists, organizations, and schools, with a focus on fostering artistic excellence, increasing access to the arts, and preserving Delaware's cultural heritage. Through its Grants for Artists program, it provides financial assistance to artists at all career stages, enabling them to create new work, advance their skills, and engage with communities.

Planning your application

Artists should carefully review the eligibility criteria and application guidelines on the Division's website. Grants are typically awarded in categories such as Individual Artist Fellowships, Opportunity Grants, and Artist Residencies. Applications are evaluated on artistic excellence, project feasibility, and potential impact. It is advisable to prepare a clear project narrative, a realistic budget, and work samples that demonstrate a strong artistic vision. Deadlines are strict, and applicants are encouraged to attend information sessions or contact program staff for guidance. The Division prioritizes projects that benefit Delaware communities and reflect the state's diversity.
