About the residency

Atlantic Center for the Arts (ACA) is a nonprofit interdisciplinary artists' community located in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Founded in 1977 by artist Doris Leeper, ACA was conceived as a retreat where artists could work without distraction and engage in meaningful exchange across disciplines. Its core mission is to support the creative process by providing time, space, and a supportive environment for artists to develop new work. Central to ACA's model is the residency program, which pairs a Master Artist with a small group of Associate Artists for three-week sessions, fostering mentorship and collaboration. Over the decades, ACA has hosted thousands of artists, including many who have gone on to significant recognition, and remains a vital resource for artistic production and dialogue.

Planning your application

Artists interested in ACA's residency programs should carefully review the specific call for applications, as each residency has distinct Master Artists and disciplinary foci. Applications typically require a work sample, artist statement, and references. It is advisable to demonstrate a clear project or direction that would benefit from the residency's structure and mentorship. ACA values artists at all career stages, but a strong application will articulate how the residency aligns with the artist's current practice and how they might contribute to the communal environment. Deadlines are firm, and early preparation is recommended.
