About the residency

The Brampton Arts Organization (BAO) is a non-profit cultural agency dedicated to fostering artistic practice and community engagement in Brampton, Ontario. Founded to address the need for a centralized arts service in one of Canada's fastest-growing and most diverse cities, BAO provides resources, advocacy, and professional opportunities for creatives across disciplines. Its open calls, such as those for the Brampton Arts Walk of Fame and various exhibition and residency programs, reflect a commitment to celebrating local talent while connecting it to broader contemporary dialogues. The organization prioritizes accessibility, equity, and the amplification of underrepresented voices, positioning art as a vital component of civic identity and social cohesion.

Planning your application

Artists should review BAO's open calls carefully, noting eligibility criteria that often prioritize Brampton residents or those with a connection to the city. Proposals should demonstrate a clear understanding of BAO's community-focused mission and, where relevant, articulate how the work engages with local audiences or themes. Given the organization's emphasis on equity, applicants from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply. Keep materials concise and ensure all required documentation is submitted by the deadline; late or incomplete applications are typically not considered.
