About the residency
The Boston Children's Hospital Research Program (BCRP) is not an arts organization but a pediatric research initiative. However, its application process and institutional ethos—rigorous, evidence-based, and child-centered—can be adapted to an arts context. Founded on the principle that scientific inquiry and compassionate care are inseparable, BCRP supports translational research that addresses childhood diseases. Its mission is to foster discoveries that improve pediatric health, with a focus on collaboration between clinicians and basic scientists. In the arts, a comparable ethos would prioritize process-driven, socially engaged practices that serve communities, particularly youth.

Applicants should approach with a well-defined research question or project goal, demonstrating methodological rigor and a clear connection to pediatric health or child welfare. For an arts adaptation, emphasize how your practice engages with young audiences or health contexts, and provide evidence of prior relevant work. Avoid vague proposals; instead, outline specific outcomes, timelines, and evaluation methods. Familiarize yourself with the host institution's mission and articulate how your project aligns with its values of inquiry and care.
