About the residency

Boathouse is an independent, artist-run residency platform founded in 2016 with the aim of fostering cross-cultural dialogue and experimentation. Operating from a historic boathouse in Finland, it hosts thematic residencies that bring together artists from diverse backgrounds to engage with pressing contemporary issues. The program emphasizes process over product, encouraging residents to explore new directions in their work within a supportive, non-hierarchical environment.

Planning your application

Artists should approach Boathouse with a clear sense of how their practice aligns with the announced theme. The selection committee values conceptual rigor and openness to dialogue over polished presentation. Applications should articulate a genuine need for the residency's specific context and resources, avoiding generic statements about career advancement. Demonstrating awareness of the program's ethos and previous residents' work is beneficial.
