About the residency

The Centre for Contemporary Art, Lagos (CCA Lagos) was founded in 2007 by Bisi Silva, a curator whose vision was to create a space for critical engagement with contemporary art in Nigeria and beyond. From its inception, CCA Lagos has operated as a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting artistic production, curatorial practice, and theoretical discourse. Its mission is to foster a deeper understanding of contemporary art through exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and publications, with a particular emphasis on African and diasporic perspectives. The centre has become a vital hub for artists, curators, and scholars, offering residencies, open calls, and collaborative projects that encourage experimentation and cross-cultural dialogue.

Planning your application

Artists and curators interested in CCA Lagos should approach opportunities with a clear, critically informed proposal that aligns with the centre's focus on contemporary African art and discourse. Open calls, such as those in partnership with Res Artis, are competitive and often seek projects that demonstrate conceptual depth and feasibility. It is advisable to review past exhibitions and publications to understand the institution's curatorial interests. Applications should articulate how the project contributes to broader conversations in contemporary art, and include a realistic budget and timeline. Given the centre's emphasis on process and research, proposals that show a willingness to engage with local contexts and communities are particularly valued.
