Chateau Orquevaux

Chateau Orquevaux is an artist residency situated in a 19th-century estate in the Champagne-Ardenne region of France. Founded on the principle of providing artists with a retreat from the demands of daily life, the residency offers a self-directed, self-catering environment designed to foster deep immersion in creative work. With a maximum of eight or nine artists in residence at any time, the program prioritizes solitude, community, and connection to the French countryside. The chateau's ethos is one of gentle structure: artists are given private rooms, shared baths, and lightly provisioned amenities, while optional excursions to local markets and regional sites encourage cultural engagement without obligation. This balance of freedom and support allows residents to shape their own experience, whether through intense studio practice or reflective exploration of the surroundings.
