About the residency

The December Residency, hosted by Argo Arts in Athens, Greece, is a month-long interdisciplinary program designed to support artists, writers, and creative practitioners at all career stages. Founded on the principle of fostering cross-cultural dialogue and experimentation, the residency provides a generative environment where residents can develop new work, engage with the local artistic community, and benefit from the rich cultural history of Athens. The program emphasizes process over product, encouraging residents to explore, take risks, and engage in meaningful exchange without the pressure of a final exhibition.

Planning your application

Applicants should submit a clear, concise proposal that outlines their intended project or area of exploration during the residency. While finished work is not required, demonstrating a thoughtful approach to process and a genuine interest in engaging with Athens' artistic community is beneficial. The selection committee values proposals that show openness to experimentation and dialogue. Applications are typically accepted on a rolling basis, but early submission is recommended for the December cohort. Include a portfolio or writing sample that reflects your practice, and be specific about how the residency would support your creative development.
