About the residency

Edenhope Artist Residency is an independent, not-for-profit residency program situated in the rural town of Edenhope, in western Victoria, Australia. Founded in 2018, it emerged from a desire to provide artists with uninterrupted time and space away from urban pressures, fostering a slower, more reflective pace of production. The residency occupies a former motel, repurposed into studios and living quarters, and welcomes artists across all disciplines, with a particular openness to those working in socially engaged, land-based, or research-driven practices. Its core mission is to support the development of new work by offering a supportive, non-hierarchical environment where experimentation is valued over finished product.

Planning your application

Applications are typically open year-round, with selection made by a small committee of artists and local stakeholders. Prospective applicants should propose a project that can be advanced in a rural setting, though there is no requirement for a finished outcome. The residency is self-directed, so a clear sense of how you will use the time—whether for research, production, or rest—is valued. Include a concise artist statement, a project outline (if applicable), and a realistic budget. Given the limited number of places, early applications are encouraged. The residency does not provide formal studio assistance or technical support, so artists should be self-sufficient. A modest fee applies, but sliding-scale and fee-waiver options are available; ask directly. Above all, demonstrate a genuine interest in engaging with the local community and the surrounding landscape, as this is central to the residency's ethos.
