About the residency

Farm Studio India is an international artist residency located in the rural village of Andore, near Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Founded in 2014 by artist and curator Heidi Vogels, the residency was conceived as a space for cross-cultural dialogue, experimentation, and community engagement, inviting artists from around the world to live and work alongside local artisans and communities. The program emphasizes process over product, offering time and space for research, collaboration, and the development of new work in a context far removed from the urban art centers. With a focus on site-specific and socially engaged practices, Farm Studio encourages artists to respond to the unique cultural and natural environment of rural Rajasthan, fostering a spirit of exchange and mutual learning.

Planning your application

Artists should approach Farm Studio with a clear sense of how their practice aligns with the residency's ethos of cross-cultural dialogue and community engagement. Applications typically require a project proposal that outlines potential interactions with the local context, though the residency remains open to process-based explorations without predetermined outcomes. It is advisable to research the region's cultural and material landscape and to articulate a genuine interest in exchange rather than mere production. The residency is self-funded, with fees covering accommodation, studio space, and meals; artists are encouraged to seek external funding. Deadlines are usually announced on the website, and early inquiries are welcome.
