About the residency
The Fish Factory Creative Centre of Stöðvarfjörður is an artist-run residency and exhibition space located in a remote East Icelandic fishing village. Founded in 2012 by a collective of artists who repurposed a derelict fish processing factory, it operates on principles of sustainability, community engagement, and creative experimentation. The centre provides studio spaces, workshops, and a gallery, hosting a rotating cohort of international and Icelandic artists. Its mission is to foster dialogue between contemporary art and the local context, encouraging projects that respond to the unique environment and social fabric of the fjord.

Planning your application
Artists should apply via open calls listed on the website, typically for month-long residencies. Proposals should demonstrate a clear interest in site-specificity, sustainability, or community interaction. The selection committee prioritizes projects that can adapt to limited resources and the isolated setting. Include a realistic budget and timeline, and be prepared to engage with the local community. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, but deadlines are strict; late submissions are not considered.
