About the residency
Haba ArtLab Barcelona is a research, production, and exhibition residency based in Barcelona. Founded to support artists working at the intersection of contemporary art and critical inquiry, the program provides time, space, and resources for developing new work. Its ethos is rooted in process over product, encouraging residents to engage deeply with their practice without the pressure of immediate outcomes. The residency culminates in a public exhibition or presentation, but the emphasis remains on the research and production phases.

Planning your application
Artists interested in applying should carefully review the residency's thematic focus and past projects to ensure alignment with its process-driven approach. Proposals should articulate a clear research question or line of inquiry, rather than a finished project. The selection committee values conceptual rigor, openness to experimentation, and a willingness to engage with the local context of Barcelona. Applications typically require a project proposal, portfolio, and artist statement. Deadlines are announced on the website, and early preparation is advised.
