About the residency

LADA, the Live Art Development Agency, was founded in 1999 as a unique organization dedicated to supporting and developing Live Art in the UK and internationally. From its base in London, LADA operates as a resource and advocacy body, offering grants, residencies, workshops, and publications that foreground experimental, ephemeral, and interdisciplinary practices. Its ethos is rooted in a commitment to risk-taking, critical inquiry, and the belief that Live Art can challenge conventional artistic and social boundaries. Over two decades, LADA has become an indispensable infrastructure for artists working across performance, body-based, and time-based media, often engaging with pressing political and identity-related themes.

Planning your application

Applicants should demonstrate a clear alignment with LADA's mission and the specific residency theme, such as 'Privilege and Class.' Proposals must articulate how the work engages with Live Art's critical and experimental potentials, avoiding generic project descriptions. LADA values process, risk, and socio-political relevance; therefore, applications should reflect a thoughtful consideration of context, audience, and the artist's positionality. It is advisable to review past LADA projects and publications to understand the organization's curatorial tone. Ensure all application materials are concise, well-structured, and submitted by the stated deadline, as LADA receives a high volume of competitive proposals.
