About the residency

Limen is an independent, globally oriented residency program that takes its name from the Latin word for threshold. Founded with the conviction that meaningful artistic production often occurs at the edges of the familiar, Limen provides time, space, and critical context for artists working across disciplines. Rather than imposing a thematic agenda, the residency cultivates an atmosphere of rigorous inquiry and generous exchange, allowing artists to pursue their own lines of research while engaging with a diverse international cohort. The program is deliberately small-scale, prioritizing depth of experience over breadth of participation.

Planning your application

Applicants should approach Limen with a clear sense of the questions or problems driving their practice, rather than a polished project proposal. The selection committee looks for evidence of sustained inquiry, openness to dialogue, and a willingness to engage with the residency's ethos of liminality. Work samples should demonstrate technical command and conceptual coherence, but the written statement is equally important: articulate what you hope to explore, not merely what you plan to produce. Given the program's global orientation, applicants from all regions and career stages are encouraged, though the committee prioritizes those for whom the residency would constitute a genuine threshold moment. Deadlines are typically announced on the website; late or incomplete applications are rarely considered.
