About the residency

Naples Botanical Garden, situated in Southwest Florida, is a 170-acre garden that bridges horticulture, conservation, and contemporary art. Since its founding in 1993, it has evolved into a living museum where artistic practice engages with tropical and subtropical environments. The garden's mission emphasizes the intersection of nature and culture, inviting artists to create work that responds to its collections and landscapes. Its residency program, offered periodically, provides artists with a stipend, studio space, and access to the garden's living collections, fostering projects that are site-responsive and ecologically attuned.

Planning your application

Artists should approach this residency with a clear understanding of the garden's mission and a genuine interest in engaging with its living collections. Proposals should demonstrate how the artist's practice will interact with the site's ecological and horticultural contexts, avoiding generic studio-based projects. It is advisable to visit the garden or research its collections thoroughly before applying. The selection committee values projects that are feasible within the residency's timeframe and resources, and that show potential for meaningful public engagement. Applications typically require a project proposal, artist statement, and work samples; ensure these materials articulate a thoughtful, site-responsive approach.
