About the residency
The Open Arts Development Foundation is a global, non-profit initiative dedicated to fostering artistic practices that engage with pressing ecological and social questions. Founded on the belief that art can catalyze new ways of thinking about planetary change, the foundation supports research, residencies, and public programs that place creative work in direct dialogue with the environment. Its flagship program, Patagonia Verde 43 S: Arts & Ecology Research Residency, exemplifies this mission by inviting artists to immerse themselves in the unique ecosystems of southern Patagonia, where they can develop projects that explore the intersections of land, ecology, and community.

Planning your application
Artists should approach the foundation with a clear articulation of how their practice engages with ecological or environmental themes, and how a residency in Patagonia would meaningfully advance their research. Proposals that demonstrate a genuine interest in place-based inquiry, community engagement, and interdisciplinary thinking are favored. It is advisable to review the foundation's past projects and align your application with its ethos of slow, reflective practice rather than seeking to produce a finished product.
