About the residency
Founded in 2007 by Phoebe Greenberg, PHI is a multidisciplinary cultural organization based in Montreal that encompasses the PHI Centre, PHI Studio, and a range of immersive exhibitions, artist residencies, and public programs. Its core mission is to support the creation and presentation of works that push the boundaries of technology, storytelling, and sensory experience, often through virtual reality, augmented reality, and interactive media. PHI positions itself as a catalyst for dialogue between art, science, and society, with a particular emphasis on projects that explore the human condition in a rapidly changing world.

Planning your application
PHI does not have a traditional open call for exhibitions; instead, it often commissions or invites artists, though it occasionally issues specific calls for projects like the Mycophilia online mushroom school. Artists should monitor the website and newsletter for opportunities. When applying, emphasize how your project engages with technology, immersion, or interdisciplinary research, and demonstrate a clear understanding of PHI's aesthetic and conceptual interests. A strong proposal will articulate the experiential and critical dimensions of the work, not just its technical novelty.
