About the residency

Rockvale Writers' Colony, situated in the rolling hills of Middle Tennessee about 40 miles south of Nashville, provides writers with dedicated time and space to advance their projects. Founded to support, promote, and educate writers of all backgrounds and genres, the colony offers residencies of one to four weeks. Each writer receives a private bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, and access to common areas for independent work as well as more secluded structures for those seeking complete solitude. The Main Farmhouse features a large, fully equipped shared kitchen where writers prepare their own meals, fostering a self-sufficient and communal atmosphere. The colony's ethos centers on creating a safe, comfortable, and inspiring environment where writers can fully immerse themselves as 'writers in residence.'

Planning your application

Applicants should submit a clear project description and a sample of recent work, demonstrating a genuine need for focused writing time. The colony welcomes writers at all career stages and in any genre, so proposals should emphasize the specific project to be advanced during the residency. Since meals are self-catered, applicants should be prepared for a self-sufficient stay. For previously accepted writers, the 2026 residency request process is streamlined; new applicants should follow the standard application guidelines on the website.
