About the residency

The Paseo Project is a Taos, New Mexico-based arts organization founded on the belief that contemporary art can be a vital force in rural communities. Since its inception, it has curated temporary public art installations, performances, and interdisciplinary projects that engage with the unique cultural and environmental landscape of northern New Mexico. Its flagship event, the Paseo Project's annual art walk, transforms the historic Taos plaza and surrounding areas into a platform for experimental and site-responsive work. The organization's ethos is rooted in process, community dialogue, and a commitment to supporting artists at all career stages, with a particular emphasis on projects that consider place, context, and social engagement.

Planning your application

Artists interested in The Paseo Project should first familiarize themselves with its past projects and the specific context of Taos. Proposals should demonstrate a clear understanding of place and a willingness to engage with local communities. The organization values experimentation and process, so applications that articulate a thoughtful approach to research, collaboration, and site-specificity are more likely to resonate than those focused solely on final objects. For the Hotel Willa Artist-in-Residence, consider how your practice can intersect with the hotel's setting and the broader Taos community. Keep in mind that the Paseo Project often works with temporary, ephemeral, or performative formats, so flexibility and openness to dialogue are essential.
