About the residency

Theatre and Dance NI (TNI) is the sectoral development organization for professional theatre and dance in Northern Ireland. Founded in 2008 through the merger of the Theatre and Dance departments of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, TNI operates as an independent charity and membership body. Its core mission is to support, promote, and advocate for the professional theatre and dance sectors, fostering a vibrant and sustainable artistic community. TNI provides a range of services including professional development, networking opportunities, advocacy, and information resources. It also manages funding programmes and residencies, such as the Wise Children Summer Open Residency, aimed at supporting artists and companies in creating new work.

Planning your application

Artists and companies interested in TNI's programmes should regularly check the website for open calls, residencies, and funding opportunities. Applications typically require a clear project proposal, budget, and timeline. It is advisable to demonstrate how the project aligns with TNI's mission of sector development and how it will benefit the wider theatre and dance community in Northern Ireland. Early contact with TNI staff to discuss eligibility and fit is encouraged. Ensure all materials are submitted before the deadline, as late applications are not accepted.
